In the event of there being a points tie at the end of the year the decision will go to the highest number of wins in the 14 scoring rounds and if still equal on the number of 2nd places etc.
Please be aware that for 2024 for anyone to score points or receive any awards in relation to the Earlystocks Championship meetings you must be a fully paid up member of both Earlystocks & also the organising club of the race meeting, i.e. BHR, Aintree RC, Tonfanau Racing AC Ltd & EMRA.

Hi everyone, this is just a quick round up following our 1st meeting of the season that was held at Mallory Park on Sunday 7th April 2024 & also includes a few updates into future meetings etc. 😀
Firstly, well done to everyone who managed to brave the storm. 👍
We had a total of just 12 riders entered for this first meeting organised by EMRA which was a little disappointing, but we were by no means the smallest grid at the meeting & when you saw how full the paddock was it just reflects the current times.
However with many thanks to EMRA, we had a grid to ourselves for the first time in a good while which was thoroughly appreciated.
We had a new member joining us for the first time #252 - Drew Pearson riding a Kawasaki GPZ550 & who rode extremely well at his first road race meeting, having come from a supermoto background & was itching to put his foot down on the corners. 👊
Unfortunately, the meeting didn’t go quite as we had hoped for a few people & I’m sure the weather took some part in that in that as it was extremely windy thanks to the storm, & intermittent sudden rain, that stopped as quick as it had started & to my knowledge never actually soaked the track.
One of those days when we can say we were lucky not to have use of wet weather tyres as it was a full-time job changing wheels/tyres for some people.
Practice started & due to some Earlystockers entering a second event besides the Earlystocks Race, some people went out in an earlier timed practice session & it was one of these that unfortunately #316 Glen Gray - VFR750 became the first Earlystocker faller of the weekend.
Unfortunately, as a result of this off, Glen had a visit to the Mallory medical centre with an arm injury, following which a visit to Coventry Hospital was necessitated. Sadly, Glenn has been diagnosed with a fracture to his arm. We really hope that nature will take it’s course & the injury heals quickly for Glen, following which we hope to see him back on track after around 6 weeks of respite. In the meantime we will be keeping him involved with the club.
The Earlystocks race was race 9 on the programme so we didn’t get out until after dinner time.
The race was delayed by quite some time unfortunately due to a good number of accidents & events including the recovery van breaking down on circuit & having to be towed off.
Race 9 started at 15.14hrs & was soon headed by #308 - Steve Hampton – VFR750, followed by #337 John Nicklin – VFR750 & #131 Mark Bostock - VFR750.
Unfortunately, Mr Bostock had an off at Edwinas on the 3rd lap, putting paid to his race.
Meanwhile #308 Steve Hampton, went off into the distance, whilst the remaining rides were all having a good tussle.
The final result being #308 - Steve Hampton, from #666 Karl Wittering – FJ1200 who seemed to have a scary moment on one lap at Edwinas where he nearly overshot forcing # 225 John Brush to take evasive action. Next over the line was #337 John Nicklin- VFR750 who was riding this bike for the first time owing to his Triumph not being race ready.
Next across the line was #119 Allan Hoyland - VFR750 who was also racing this bike for the 1st time. Allan was followed by #204 Ivan Childs – GSXR750, who was followed by his old sparring partner of #225 John Brush – GPZ750, from #246 Stu Poulton – YPVS350, from #252 Drew Pearson – GPZ550, followed by #233 Mark Whorton – 750 Zephyr & #350 Gavin Bird – YPVS350 who was riding whilst very battered & bruised thanks to a fall from out of his van on a previous day.
The Earlystocks second race of the day got under way at 17.28hrs.
The weather was certainly playing a game with us again & during the race I think it started & stopped raining at least 3 times, which wasn’t at all helpful to the riders.
The race was headed off on the first lap by #337 John Nicklin who had a decent lead from the rest of the field who were all very close & within 6 seconds of one another.
Unfortunately, John was another casualty just exciting out of Edwinas & I think the “you bend it you mend it” clause on the VFR he was riding has been activated by team Bert. #204 Ivan Childs pulled off circuit after lap 4.
The final finishing order being :-
#308 – Steve Hampton, #131 – Mark Bostock, #119 Allan Hoyland, these three were extremely close & Mark Bostock had been leading Allan Hoyland until the last lap, when Mr Hampton pounced, the three of them covered by 0.3 of a second over the line. The winning margin was just 0.055.
Next across the line was another close battle which was led by #225 John Brush, from #233 Mark Whorton who was just 0.4 behind, followed closely by #252 Drew Pearson, from #666 Karl Wittering, from #246 Stu Poulton & #350 Gavin Bird.
Well done to everyone & I hope everyone who had an off recovers quickly.
Also many thanks to EMRA for providing us with 6 x 1st place trophies which covered us for both of the Earlystocks races.

As I write this message a number of you are preparing to head off to the Lydden Hill meeting this weekend organised by BHR, Whilst this is a non overall Earlystocks Championship meeting it is still part of the 2024 Earlystocks-BHR Championship, so points are still on the table.
Earlystocks to my knowledge have never been to Lydden Hill so this will certainly be a New experience for a good number of our riders.
It looks to be a thoroughly enjoyable weekend & the weather forecast is also very favourable.
A nice surprise which we have only just been made aware of is for racing being able to start at 10.30am on Sunday, it looks like this is one of only 2 Sundays allowed at Lydden Hill that can have an earlier start time that 12pm.
Unfortunately, as much as I would love to have attended this meeting as I’ve never been, it just isn’t feasible due to a 1000 mile round trip for us. Therefore our committee member #150 - John Adamson will be representing us, so please be kind & gentle with him especially as Donna has a broken arm & won’t be able to do her usual mechanic duties.
I will obviously be on the end of the phone should anyone have any problems at the meeting.
Race entries - Cadwell 11th & 12th May - BHR
In typical BHR style we were told that race entries had to be in 3 weeks prior to the start of the meeting you are entering otherwise there would be a late entry fee. I think this is still the recommendation however I saw a post on Facebook the other day stating that for the Cadwell meeting on the 11th & 12th May they will not be charging a late entry fee until midnight Tuesday 30th April.
I can only assume that this is due to the short time btwn the Lydden meeting & the Cadwell meeting.
I would however still recommend that you enter the Cadwell meeting as soon as you are able as it does tend to get a good entry & if Earlystockers don’t get their entries in they will fill our grid with other BHR classes of bike.
I absolutely appreciate that you may not always be able to get your entry in by the closing date as you may be waiting for parts to come for your bike, or you may or may not be working but won’t know until nearer the time etc. What I would suggest in this case is that you contact Sophie at BHR (probably not best to do it this weekend as she’ll be busy in the Race office at Lydden.) Just politely explain the situation to her & I’m pretty sure she will help you out & it may well just save you a late entry fee. After all there’s no harm in asking.
I do still have a few transponders available for hire for Cadwell for £10 each for the weekend. If you wish to hire one for Cadwell please get in touch with me to see if they are still available & I can also give you the transponder number.
For those of you looking to make a long weekend at Cadwell & maybe want some extra practice there is a Classic bike track day on at Cadwell on the Friday 10th May for £139. To book this you need to book it via Cadwell directly or visit their website at msv.trackdays.com. I know a number of our riders have already booked onto this track day.
For those of you who may not be aware you are also able to camp at the circuit on Sunday night leaving before 12pm on the Monday.
Sponsorship required.
Okay folks, as most of you know, Earlystocks unfortunately does not get any financial assistance from any of the clubs that we run with. This means that we are almost 100% reliant on people paying their £20 to become members of the club.
Over the many years that this club has been running, we have generally been used to having on the day awards, these were generally very kindly supplied by the race organising clubs that we ran with.
As most of you know BHR do not present any on the day awards to anyone & when you look at the number of classes they cater for on a race day you can quite understand why this is not feasible. This is also reflected by slightly lower entry fees than other clubs.
What we would like to do here at Earlystocks is to be able to present on the day trophies once again for the BHR rounds, but in order to do this the Club needs to raise some funds to pay for them. The race organisers of the non BHR rounds we hope will supply us with some trophies as was the case at Mallory.
We have costed some on the day awards/trophies & believe that approx. £100 per day would allow us cover all the Earlystocks classes. In essence what we would like to do is the same as last year & present trophies for the Saturday at a 2 day meeting when we could get together at the customary Club BBQ hosted by our excellent chefs on the Saturday evening & have the presentation of the days awards. We would therefore like to try & raise if at all possible a minimum of £500 for the on the day awards.
Quite understandably everyone is having to tighten their purse strings & I really hate asking but if there is anyone out there that knows anyone that could help us out with some financial sponsorship or can think of other ways we could raise some money to fund these awards we would be very grateful.
Even if it’s getting your friends to join the club for £20, or to put it another way donate £20 to the club & they’d have free Earlystocks Club membership for the season, 😁 that would also really help us as we would really like to build the Club membership up.
Nigel Lawrence.
I know a good number of you are on Facebook & may already be aware of the news regarding Nigel Lawrence but for those of you who haven’t seen the post on Facebook. Here is a copy of the post:-
I’m afraid I have some very sad news regarding one of our former riders – Nigel Lawrence.
Nigel was a true character & a great rider & mechanic, a lot of our longer standing members will well remember the bright yellow motorbikes & Team top banana as the group of friends & riders including Nigel were known. Many a happy time was had by us all in the Coachhouse Inn at Mallory Park on a race weekend.
Sadly only a few weeks ago Nigel was by his own admission battling cancer & I have been informed that he sadly passed away yesterday morning. (13th April)
On behalf of us all at Earlystocks I wish to pass on our deepest sympathies to Nigel’s wife, family & friends. Our thoughts are with them at this very sad time.
Finally
I hope everyone has a good time at Lydden & please keep those bikes upright, I won’t be there to help pack your vans up. 😁
Hopefully I’ll catch up with a good number of you at Cadwell.
That’s it for now folks.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Earlystocks Racing Club. ( Classic, Post Classic and Modern Classic Racing Motorcycles).
This is a club for those of who remember when bikes were bikes and not all covered in plastic.
Catering basically for road based production machines manufactured pre 1987. Air cooled engines with carburettors, twin rear shocks. Old school technology where spanners count for more than computers.
Monoshock machines also now catered for.
We allow some modifications to make it easier to get better tyres than the old canvas things they used back then.
Tuning the supension and engines to give more power and handle better than they were built to back in the day.
Being one of the cheapest forms of racing it is becoming more popular, especially when compared to the cost of racing a supersports or superbike, where the price of a weekends tyres for a superbike would cover about a 3rd of a seaons racing on and Earlystocker.
The racing on track is just as good but back in the paddock it is more social and everybody will help you if you have a problem.
If you've ever said to yourself "I'd love to have a go at racing" come on and give it a go or come along to some of the tracks and talk to us.
You'll be glad you did.
Want to race on a lower budget without having to purchase a full Race Frame & Tyre Warmers etc, then look no further.
